Keeping students engaged in your history lesson can sometimes become a tricky task—especially when there are important dates, names, and locations to remember. However, by incorporating graphic design into your history lesson, you can easily create an interactive history lesson plan that will engage your students and still teach them valuable skills.
This lesson plan engages your student’s imagination and teaches them how to research, write and design all at the same time.
In this free history lesson plan, students learn the following:
- How to research. Students will be asked to accurately research a period in history by using valid historical sources.
- How to distinguish important historical information. Students will be asked to identify key characteristics of a time period and discern which elements are the most interesting and unique.
- How to present information in an interesting way. Build on their design skills by creating a persuasive poster that convinces their audience to travel in time to a particular period in history.
To take part in this lesson, students will require the following:
- Access to a computer or mobile device
- Internet connection
- A Canva login
To take the lesson one step further, there are also homework activities included. Students can review and give feedback to another peer’s work, or students can present their poster as a digital portfolio to the class.
This lesson plan is suitable for secondary school students. For more on this lesson, download the PDF lesson plan.
